Learn from Cynthia Osokogu, Facebook community warns ladies

By PHILIP NWOSU

Days after Cynthia Valerie Osokogu was allegedly killed by her suspected Facebook friends fears and apprehension have gripped members of the these social network community which had hitherto helped them to connect to old Friends For many it was an end to confirming people who daily pester them for friendship, but for others it is a hard lesson for young ladies on Facebook.
Investigation into the webpage of Cynthia Osokogu on Facebook, it was learnt that she is a very open person always accepting friends without toeing the path of caution. The volume of friends on her Facebook page points that, she had 1038 friends. For a member of the Facebook community who was identified as Chuck Ikeji: “My heart goes out to the parents of this young lady. This only goes to show that Face Book could be used for both good and evil purposes. Face Book is like a highway you got both good and evil people cruising the highway just be very careful and extremely discriminating.
In the words of Ronald Reagan “Trust but verify”. Just like your mama told you, Don’t go home with a man you met at the bar. This is mainly for you young ladies.” But another Facebook user Umukoro James has a different view, indeed he said: “What befell that lady was a sad incident and gullibility played its role on the part of the lady. Being on Facebook is like being in a marketplace or public square.
No matter how familiar the face may be, the person is still a stranger in real life.” Ben Onuora who lives in Europe agreed that there is a lesson to be learnt from the incident, he said: “Yes, it will serve as a lesson to others, because most girls here in Europe are hooked up with guys at home, through Facebook, but this information will help them While explaining that the incident has brought a new phase to the use of Facebook, Winnie Agada said:
“That is why I ignore a whole lot of people who ask to be friends with me but I don’t even know them. Too bad. You don’t get cozy with someone you don’t know and haven’t even met before. Olumuyiwa Thomas another Facebook enthusiast lamented the evil people have turned this good webpage to, indeed, he said: “Plenty of evil in the world but the grace of God exceed the evil around, may we not get into the wrong hands.”
Insisting that the persons who committed this heinous crime should be dealt with accordingly by the law, Dupe Olusanya Sunmola another Facebook user said, “it is ridiculous, I think those guy should be jailed.” Same for Biyi Adegoroye a journalists who insists that, “if the content of our Criminal Code is anything to go by, murder attracts death penalty.” Mary Chuks Samuel talked about regulations on social network sites explaining that “Facebook was introduced into Nigeria but no one took the time to warn the citizens of the dangers that come with social networks…….
It is so sad, I will not even wish this on my enemy…..No father or mother should bury their daughter.” Also Emmanuel Majebi who said he read the story said the lady “ fell for a cheap trick!” Anne Damisa a former Journalists who lives in the United States said: “Always knew like every community that the Facebook community harbours all kinds of people. Where people pretend to be what they are not.
The irresponsible faking to be responsible. The devilish acting Christlike. The married acting single. And those who lack the ability to conceal their true self for long-STALKERS who constantly send harassing emails and make senseless comments. I feel sorry for DESPERATE WOMEN who cannot see the handwriting on the wall. Cynthia, a graduate student and the daughter of a Nigerian retired Army General, would have been alive today if she had not fallen for a FAKE MAN on FB.
Ladies BEWARE!” Similarly Azuka Francisca Ogujiuba said: “By now we know that Facebook habours a lot of fake people who see your picture or information and think you are available or if possible dupe you in so many ways, love, monetary or whatever. It is very true that people have met on FB and have gotten married and it is also true that people have met on FB and have gotten their hearts crashed….
When we look four love or lovers on Facebook, lets be very careful, there are so many evil minded people on FB, so ladies listen up well….the story of Cynthia, the daughter of a retired Major General and a postgraduate student of Nasarawa State University who was lured to Lagos by the man she met on Facebook and was killed by him is enough for everybody to be on their ten-toes…..PLEASE lets be careful because people are beginning to abuse Facebook….God help us all!”
